Can't access a project or workspace
Why a project might be missing, and how to get access back.
A project has disappeared
Check the context first. The control at the top of the sidebar shows Personal or a workspace name. Personal projects are invisible from a workspace and the reverse.
This is the cause the overwhelming majority of the time. Switch context and the project is there.
Then check, in order:
- Are you signed in as the right account? The row at the bottom of the
sidebar shows the email address.
- Were you unassigned? In a workspace, VA / Team Members see only the
projects they are assigned to. Ask an Owner or Admin.
- Was your access removed? A project owner can revoke sharing at any time.
- Was it deleted? Deletion is permanent, and removes it for everyone.
A workspace has disappeared from the switcher
Usually your membership ended: you were removed, you left, the workspace was deleted, or the agency's subscription lapsed.
If your Pro came from that seat, your account has returned to its own plan. See Sponsored Pro and What happens after a downgrade.
You can see a project but cannot change anything
Your permission level allows viewing but not editing.
On a personal project, you have View + complete, which allows ticking tasks off but nothing else. Ask the owner to raise it. See Permission levels.
In a workspace, VA / Team Members cannot rename or delete projects, or assign people. Those need Owner or Admin. See Workspace roles.
A shared link does not work
- The project was renamed. Renaming changes its address, so old links stop
resolving. Ask for the new one.
- You are not signed in, or you are signed in as a different account.
- You do not have access to it.
You cannot create a project
On Free you can hold 3 projects. Delete one, or upgrade.
In a workspace, only Owners, Admins, and legacy Managers can create projects.
You cannot create a task
On Free the limit is 50 active tasks. Completing tasks frees room immediately, because completed tasks do not count.
Someone cannot see what you shared with them
- Confirm the address you sent it to is the one they signed in with.
- Check whether the invitation is still pending.
- In a workspace, confirm they are assigned to the project, not just a
member of the workspace.
See Invitation problems.
