Themes and personalization
Appearance and theme color are two separate settings that combine.
VA To-Do has two independent appearance settings. Understanding that they are separate is most of what there is to know.
Appearance is not theme color
Appearance decides light or dark. Theme color decides the palette.
They combine freely:
- Dark + Purple
- Light + Emerald
- System + Ocean Blue
- Dark + Default
Changing one never changes the other.

Each has a light and a dark variant, which is why it works with any appearance.

Change either one
- Go to Settings → Theme.
- Choose an Appearance.
- Choose a Theme Color.
Both apply immediately, with no save step and no reload.
The quick dark mode toggle
For a fast switch without opening Settings:
- Select your account row at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Select Dark mode or Light mode.
This sets an explicit Light or Dark and therefore leaves System if you were on it. Go back to Settings → Theme to return to System.
Your choice follows you
Both settings are stored per browser and applied before the page paints, so there is no flash of the wrong theme on load.
Because they are stored per browser rather than on your account, a different computer starts on the defaults until you set them there too.
