Find your way around
The sidebar, the context switcher, task views, the dashboard, and navigating on a phone.
Almost everything in VA To-Do is reached from the sidebar on the left.
The context switcher
The control at the very top of the sidebar shows which context you are in. It is either Personal or the name of a workspace, with its logo or initials beside it.
Select it to switch. If you do not belong to any workspace, it shows Personal and does not open, there is nothing to switch to.
See Switch workspaces.
Beside the switcher
- Bell: notifications. A badge shows the unread count.
- Panel icon: collapse the sidebar to icons only, and expand it again.
Main navigation
- Add task: opens the full task composer from anywhere.
- Dashboard: team metrics. Only appears inside a workspace, for owners and
admins on a paid plan.
- Time tracker / My time, only inside a workspace with time tracking
available to you. Owners and admins see "Time tracker"; everyone else sees "My time". See Time tracking.
- Inbox: every active task in the current context, with a count.
- Today: tasks due today, plus anything overdue.
- Upcoming: tasks with a future due date.
- Completed: what you have finished.
- Recurring: your repeat schedules. See
Career
A Career section holds Career Vault and Opportunities. It only appears in the Personal context. On Pro and Agency, Career Vault can be shown or hidden in Settings → Account → Personal Career Vault.
Projects
Below that, your projects are listed, with favourites pinned above them. On a paid plan they can be grouped into folders.
Select a project to open it. Drag projects to reorder them or move them into a folder. See Group projects into folders.
The bottom of the sidebar
- Feedback: send us a bug report or an idea.
- Your account row: your name and current plan. Select it for the account
menu: light/dark toggle, Settings, upgrade options, and Log out.
On a phone
On small screens the sidebar is replaced by a bar along the bottom of the screen:
- Today, Inbox, and Upcoming open those views directly.
- The round + button in the middle opens the task composer.
- Menu opens the full sidebar as a drawer, with everything described
above: the context switcher, notifications, projects, and your account row.
Everything else works the same as on a desktop.
Task views
Inside Inbox or any project you can switch layout:
- List: grouped rows. The default.
- Board: Kanban columns you can drag between.
- Calendar: tasks on a monthly grid, by due date.
See Task views.
