Assign tasks
Give a task an owner inside a workspace, and see what is assigned to you.
Before you begin
You can only assign someone who is already a member of the workspace and assigned to the project the task lives in. If the person you want is not in the list, add them to the project first, see Workspace projects.
Assign a task
- Open the task, or find the assignee control on its row.
- Select the assignee avatars.
- Choose one or more people.
- Close the picker.
Their avatars appear on the task. A task can have more than one assignee when two people are genuinely sharing the work.
Assign while creating
The Add task composer in the sidebar includes an assignee picker, so a task can be delegated the moment it is written down.
Remove an assignee
Open the same picker and deselect them. The task stays; only the assignment changes.
Seeing what is assigned to you
Your Inbox, Today, and Upcoming views inside a workspace show the work you can see, with assignee avatars on each row. Filter to yourself to narrow it down.
Owners and Admins can see the whole workspace's work, which is what makes the Dashboard and team reports useful for spotting an uneven load.
Assignment and access are different things
Assigning a task does not grant access. If someone cannot see the project, they will not see a task in it even with their name on it.
Access comes from being assigned to the project; task assignment only says who is doing the work.
Recurring tasks
Assigning an occurrence assigns that one occurrence. To change who a whole series goes to, edit the series from the Recurring view. Removing someone from a workspace never deletes a series they were on, an Owner or Admin can reassign it. See Recurring tasks.
