Group projects into folders

Create folders in the sidebar and file projects into them.

A folder is a group of projects in the sidebar. It collapses, so a long list becomes a short one. Most people file by client, by department, or by the kind of work: Clients, Internal, On hold.

Create a folder

  1. Select the + beside the Projects heading in the sidebar.
  2. Choose Folder.
  3. Type a name and select Save.

The folder appears above your unfiled projects.

Put a project in a folder

Either way works:

  • Drag the project onto the folder.
  • Open the project's menu, select Move to folder, then pick the

folder. No folder takes it back out.

To start a project already filed, open the folder's menu and select Add project.

Rename or delete a folder

Open the folder's menu and select Rename or Delete.

Deleting a folder never deletes projects. They return to the main list, unfiled, with their tasks untouched.

What folders do not change

  • Nothing about access. Filing a project does not share it or hide it from

anyone who already has it.

  • Nothing inside a project. Its tasks, sections, and people are unaffected.
  • One level. A project sits in one folder or none, and folders do not go

inside other folders.

  • Your folders are yours. Your own folders are private to you, even for a

project you share. A collaborator sees the project in their own sidebar, arranged their way. In a workspace it is the other way round: everyone who can see the project sees the folder it is in.

If your plan changes

Downgrading to Free does not delete anything. Your folders stay, your projects stay in them, and you can still open and collapse them; you just cannot create new folders until you are back on Pro.
