Create a project

Add a personal or workspace project and set it up.

Before you begin

Check which context you are in. The switcher at the top of the sidebar decides whether the new project is personal or belongs to a workspace, and it cannot be moved afterwards.

Inside a workspace you need to be an Owner, Admin, or Manager to create a project. See Workspace roles.

Create a project

  1. In the sidebar, find the Projects heading for the context you want.
  2. Select the + beside it.
  3. Type a name.
  4. Press Enter.

The project is created and opens straight away.

Set it up

Once it exists, these are worth doing while you are there.

Give it a colour. Open the project's menu (the beside its name) and pick one. The colour marks its tasks in mixed views.

Pin it. From the same menu, add it to Favourites so it sits at the top.

Add sections. Inside the project, create sections to group tasks, for example Backlog, In progress, Waiting on client. In Board layout each section is a column.

Add people. For a personal project, use Share. For a workspace project, use Assign. See Invite a collaborator and Workspace projects.

If you have hit your plan limit

On Free, once you hold 3 projects, creating another prompts you to upgrade instead. You can either upgrade to Pro for unlimited projects, or delete a project you have finished with.
