Personal vs Workspace projects
The difference between a project you own and a project a workspace owns.
Every project in VA To-Do is one of two kinds. Which one it is decides who can reach it, how people are added, and whether time can be tracked against it.
The short version
Personal projects belong to you. You can share them with a limited number of collaborators. This is the default, and on Free and Pro it is the only kind.
Workspace projects belong to a workspace. Access follows workspace roles and per-project assignment. Workspaces require the Agency plan.

Which one you want
Use personal projects if you work for yourself, you want a client or a subcontractor to see one specific project, or you are on Free or Pro.
Use a workspace if you run a team, several people need access to a shared set of projects, you need roles rather than per-project sharing, or you need to track hours.
Moving between them
There is no automatic conversion from a personal project to a workspace project. If you outgrow personal sharing, create the project inside the workspace and add its people there.
Plan this before you invite anyone: collaborators on a personal project are not carried across to a workspace, and would need inviting again.
Time tracking is the sharpest difference
Hours can only be recorded against workspace projects on an Agency plan. A personal project keeps working normally for everything else, it simply has no timer. See Time tracking.
