Tasks overview

What a task can hold and how tasks move through VA To-Do.

Tasks are the unit of work in VA To-Do. Everything else, projects, views, tracked time, reports, exists to organize them.

What a task can hold

  • Title: the one thing it must have
  • Project: which project it belongs to
  • Due date, optionally with a time
  • Priority: Urgent, High, Normal, or None
  • Description: longer context, notes, links
  • Subtasks: a checklist inside the task, with a progress bar
  • Assignees: in a workspace, who is doing it
  • Repeat schedule: see Recurring tasks
  • Comments: a conversation with whoever else has access, see

Comments and @mentions

  • Activity: a record of what changed and when

The life of a task

  1. Created, in a project or straight into the Inbox.
  2. Active, it appears in Inbox, and in Today or Upcoming once it has a due

date.

  1. Completed, struck through, moved to Completed. Reopen it any time.

Completed tasks stop counting toward the Free active-task limit.

Where tasks appear

  • Inbox: every active task in the current context
  • Today: due today, plus anything overdue
  • Upcoming: due later
  • Completed: finished work
  • A project: just that project's tasks

Each of these can be shown as a List, a Board, or a Calendar. See Task views.
